309 GTi

205 GTi

405 Mi16

306 GTi-6

Here we have a unsung hero. A car that was never meant to be a Peugeot but became an iconic one in its own right. The 309 shared much in common with the 205 1.9 GTi, but with a trump card up its sleeve and thats practicality. The 3 door is the one to have. When compared with with the 205 it moves and behaves just like the baby pug but will be forever in its shadow. This makes it a true unsung hero of the 80's.

One of the most sort after modern classics on our list. Available with a 1.6 and a 1.9 engine this little pug rattled VW's hot hatchback domination of the 80's. Peugeot kept it simple stick the wheels as close to the corners as possible, keep the weight down and power high. What you then end up with is a legend of a hot hatchback that has cemented its self in car history.

Hot on the heels of the 205 and 309 GTi Peugeot tried its luck with the family saloon. Everything they had learnt about setting a hot car up went into this wolf in sheeps clothing. Peugeot then got the engine from the Citroen BX GTi which had 160BHP, plenty for its time and the Mi16 was born. To say this car is rare today is an understatement. Currently there are on 17 taxed examples left on UK roads (18/9/15).

After Peugeot's hot car success of the 80's they gave us this. I would personally consider this to be Peugeot's last great hot car, until the latest arrival of the new 208 GTi. Having nearly 170BHP in a light weight body meant that this hatchback was a pleasure to drive with its free revving engine. Sadly after this Peugeot forgot how to make cars like these.
