Clio V6

5 GT Turbo

Ignoring the current Clio Renaultsport with its new 1.6 turbo engine. This Clio is where it all started. Now bare in mind this car arrived in 1993 and for roughly the last 20 years Renault continued the same formula. Technology improved but the recipe stayed the same, a 2 litre engine and light weight body, simple. Renault made a Williams 1, 2 and 3 over the years. Basically as the numbers went up so did the weight, so go for the Williams 1 if you can.

You can imagine the day someone stood up in a board room and said "everyone I have an idea". But what an idea it was. Now if you want a 2 seater sports car why buy this over a proper 2 seater. Simple because its mad. Just look at it, its a Clio with an engine in the back turning out over 250BHP why wouldn't you want one? Most would agree that the second generation would be the pick as it ironed out the problems found in the first.

This made up one of the top 3 1980's king of the hot hatchbacks. Up against the 205 GTi and Golf GTi it had the least the power, smallest engine but also the least weight and a turbo. Meaning that it could easily mix it up with the other 2. As with all 80's turbo's you need to spool up the turbo to get the most out of it. Thats no bad thing as it means you find yourself driving it the way god intended it to be driven.
